At the intersection of education, innovation and international cooperation, AddictLab Academy has been developing a growing portfolio of projects with organisations and institutions in International Geneva. Through hands-on learning, creative experimentation and emerging technologies, the Academy helps young people and communities engage with some of the major challenges facing our society.

International Geneva is home to organisations working on some of the world’s most complex issues. AddictLab Academy contributes to this ecosystem by creating a space where those issues can meet curiosity, creativity and experimentation. In this way, the Academy is not simply teaching about the future. It is helping young people experiment with it and helping the International Organisations be more creative, impactful and resilient

An important role for the SDGFablab

Addictlab’s SDGFablab plays an important role in these projects as this hands-on laboratory creates the experiences, artefacts, ideation tools necessary. The SDGFablab is a true laboratory with tools and machines, whereas the concepts emerge from Addictlab’s holistic creative approach with extensive branding and marketing & identity experience..

World Health Organisation

Bringing new ideas to the WHO through Idea Greenhouses

AddictLab Academy installed Idea Greenhouses at the World Health Organization (WHO) during the World Health Assembly. These collaborative innovation sessions create spaces where participants can explore challenges, exchange perspectives and develop ideas together.

One of the themes addressed through this work has been social connection: how communities can strengthen relationships, reduce isolation and create environments in which people feel more connected. Rather than approaching the challenge only from a traditional policy perspective, the Idea Greenhouse methodology encourages participants to experiment, prototype and imagine practical solutions.

The project includes Idea harvesting, the creation of an Idea database, the publication of a special edition of the SDGzine and the preparation of hackathons with Master students from Imperial College UK

International Telecomunication Union

Girls in ICT: encouraging the next generation with ITU

AddictLab Academy’s work with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) through Girls in ICT workshops.

These workshops aim to give girls opportunities to discover technology, experiment with digital tools and see themselves as potential creators and innovators in the ICT field. The collaboration also illustrates the value of connecting international institutions with local educational ecosystems: global priorities can become tangible experiences for young people.

Exploring the Metaverse with UNRISD

AddictLab Academy has also explored the potential of immersive technologies through a VR and Metaverse project with the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD).

The project investigates how virtual environments can provide new ways of learning, collaborating and discussing social-development issues. The result is an online presentation and immersion project for the Social Justice Art exhibition.

Connecting with CERN IdeaSquare

AddictLab Academy’s relationship with CERN IdeaSquare adds another dimension to this ecosystem of innovation. The Academy has been involved in projects connected with IdeaSquare, including the display of its logo, reflecting its connection with CERN’s innovation and education environment.

CERN IdeaSquare provides a unique setting where science, technology, design and innovation come together. Being connected to such an environment gives learners an opportunity to see how ideas can move from experimentation and prototyping towards real-world applications.
